Technology during the war
Railroads, advanced weaponry, canons, telegraphs (war was able to be more long distance and not had hand to hand combat)
The Doctrine of Nullification
South ignoring/nullifying laws passed
Emancipation Proclamation
Lincoln declared enslaved people in the Confederacy to be free. South felt he had no power to do so/basically ignored it.
Freedmen’s Bureau
An agency established by Congress at the end of the Civil War to help and protect newly freed Black Americans
Anaconda Plan
step 1: surround the South by the sea to cut off its trade.
step 2: divided the Confederacy into sections to prevent one region from helping another.
step 3: capture Richmond, Virginia (capital of the Confederacy) and destroy the Confederacy gov’t.

13th, 14th, and 15th amendment
What did the 13th amendment do?
it abolished slavery in the US
What did the 14th amendment do?
a change to the constitution granting citizenship to anyone born in the US and guaranteeing all individuals equal protection to the law
What did the 15th amendment do?
a change to the constitution declaring that states cannot deny anyone the right to vote because of race, color, or because the person were once enslaved
