Weather Radar Use for Descent Phase
Prior to and during the first half of the descent, where there is a possibility of
convective weather on or around the descent path, manual tilt mode is to be used
to scan for weather on the descent path.
Return to auto mode if there is no hazardous weather, or if weather is shown,
maintain manual mode and proactive tilt adjustments until below FL220.
RFFS requirements
Inside Australian territory 0
Outside Australian Territories
Destination 8
Alternate. 6
Adequate 4
Company policy is to continue to operate for 72 hours following any deterioration or withdrawal of RFFS.
Manoeuvre fuel
200kg per departure and arrival
Fixed reserve
30 minutes holding at 1500ft = 2300kg
Variable reserve
5% of flight fuel and not less than 5 minutes at the fixed reserve rate.
Variable reserve is not applied to alternate fuel or to in-flight requirements.
Maximum 2000kg
Holding fuel
Fuel calculated at the 20 000 ft holding fuel flow for the anticipated temperature to cover the following as required at the destination or destination alternate:
• Projected traffic holding;
• Periods when an alternate is required due to weather for an ‘INTER’ or ‘TEMPO’ interval during the applicable period;
Simultaneous Weather and Traffic
When a simultaneous requirement exists for weather and traffic holding fuel, the following applies:
• TEMPO – Traffic holding should be added to the ‘TEMPO’ requirement. If the total holding exceeds 80 minutes, an alternate is to be planned;
• INTER – Traffic holding should be added to the ‘INTER’ requirement. If the total holding exceeds 60 minutes, an alternate is to be planned.
Inter Thunderstorms (fuel planning)
Pre-dispatch whenever ‘INTER’ thunderstorms are forecast for the destination or destination alternate, 60 minutes holding fuel is to be carried to cover the requirement (payload permitting).
Taxi Fuel (TAXI OUT)

Recommended thrust limit for takeoff
Recommended, if no operational constraints - First Officer displays
THRUST LIM page, and in conjunction with the Captain, adjusts as
required the climb thrust according to the better derate of the following
or the FMS default;
• Where GW is >220T select CLB1
• Where GW is <220T select CLB2
Engine start at temperatures above 40 degrees C

Restricted pilot limitations
- My situation, restricted for 3 months from check to line
- Only one pilot can be restricted on any duty
- 426 & competency focused training candidates considered as restricted
Augmented crew rest requirements
Control seat pilots for final landing - 2 hours each
Jumpseat pilots - 1.5 hours each
Rest starting after flight through F200 (earliest)
Everyone on flight deck 60 minutes prior to landing (latest)
