marrying the brides family had to consent (which they did not) and expected to be of equal
social class.

Women were seen as sex objects, passive individuals, although, slowly turning against
traditional patriarchal values.
CONTEXT: Race
Black charecters in Elizabeathan times were portrayed as villains, stereotyping devils
thought to be black. However, Othello as the back character is not portrayed at the villain.
The term ‘Moor’ has been used historically to refer to someone who is Muslim, African,
Arab or just generally not white or Christian
