What is osteoporosis?
presence of bone mineral density (BMD) of less than 2.5 standard deviations (SD) below the young adult mean density.

What is the treatment of osteoporosis?
alendronate
(then zoledronic acid, strontium ran elate, raloxifine)
+ vit D and calcium supplementation
What blood tests should you do?
full blood count urea and electrolytes liver function tests bone profile CRP thyroid function tests
What is denosumab, how does it work?
human monoclonal antibody that inhibits RANK ligand, which in turn inhibits the maturation of osteoclasts
