Risk of osteonecrosis of the jaw in non cancer patients is 1 in 10000 to 1 in 100000.
Risk of osteonecrosis in cancer patients on high dosage is 1-2 percent.
Most risk in cancer patients and those who have had immunosuppresive therapt ie prednisolone.

If a patient going for a dental procedure on bisphonate, what is your advice?

A

If less than 4 years of treatment, then probably ok to do dental procedure.
If more than 4 years of treatment or on steroid therapy, then withhold bisphosphonates for 2 months and don’t start until bone healed.
