They affect calcium absorption and metabolism.

Risk factors for osteoporosis?
A
- Small framed
- Asian and Caucasians
- African Americans are less susceptible to osteoporosis.
- Occurs less in men and occurs usually older (1 decade later).
- Risk increases with age for both genders.
- Inadequate nutrition: Diet must include adequate calories, calcium and vitamin D.
- Patients with bariatric surgery, celiac disease and alcoholism.
- Immobilization by cast, general inactivity, paralysis etc.
- Obesity: less active, key nutrients usually not included.
