For hematogenous infection, what are common pathogens and empiric treatment for Neonates
- -> Strep, Staph, Gm (-)
- -> Treatment: Vancomyin/Cloxacillin + 3rd gen ceph. Depends on if MRSA suspicious
what are common pathogens and empiric treatment for Children?
Staph, Strep, rarely gm (-)
Treatment: Cloxacillin/Vancomycin. Add on cefotaxime if not immunized to H. flu
what are common pathogens and empiric treatment for Adults?
- Strep and gm (-)
- -> Treatment: Cloxacillin or cefazolin.
Contiguous (infection of bone adjacent to site of entry/trauma)
Head/Neck pathogens and treatment
- -> Anaerobes, Strep, Staph, gm (-)
- -> treatment: Clindamycin (i.e. gets gm (+) b/c can target MRSA and anearobes) + gentamicin
Spread from soft tissue:
o Usually strep or staph
o Use cloxacillin or cefazolin.
Spread from genitourinary system:
.
o Usually gm –ve
o Ciprofloxacin, 3rd generation cephalosporin
