What is the WHO definition of OA?
A
Long-term chronic disease characterised by the deterioration of cartilage in joints which results in bones rubbing together and creating stiffness, pain and impaired movement.

List the inflammatory mediators present in OA.
A
Proteinases (e.g. matrix metalloproteinases MMPs and aggrecanases)
Inflammatory cytokines - IL-1 and TNF-alpha which enhances the synthesis of proteinases and other catabolic factors to degrade the articular cartilage membrane.
