Genetic & Environmental factors that can precipitate OA
Genetic: familial link, no mendelian inheritance, no formal genetic mutation identified
Environment: hobbies, type of work, joints with malalignment (development/ pathological)
Secondary OA causes

Signs & Symptoms of OA
Symptom: pain
Sign: baker’s cyst
choice of investigation for OA & what it shows
X-Ray (LOSS): Loss of joint space Osteophytes Sclerosis Subchondral cysts
Management of OA
analgesia & physiotherapy
(weight loss & exercise)
sometimes - surgery
