Describe the position of the inguinal ligament and superficial and deep inguinal rings in bony models
Be able to sex male & female pelvic girdle using pelvic inlet and subpubic angle

Describe and demonstrate 9 regions / 4 quadrants of the abdomen
Describe and demonstrate position of subcostal plane, transpyloric plane,transtubercular plane, supracristal plane
- Lumbar vertebral levels: L1, L2, L4
- Surface locate the position of stomach, duodenum, appendix and caecum, ascending and descending colon and urinary bladder on the anterior abdominal wall (this is not precise surface marking) ..
- stomach(epigastric), duodenum(epigastric and umbilical), appendix and caecum(right inguinal), ascending and descending colon (right lumbar – for ascending colon and left hypochondriac and left inguinal – for descending) and urinary bladder(hypogastric) on the anterior abdominal wall (this is not precise surface marking) ..
- Surface mark (pg 79)and palpate: Liver, gall bladder and spleen on the anterior abdominal wall.
- Surface mark: right & left kidneys and ureters on the posterior abdominal wall(pg 86)
- Palpate the lower poles of kidneys through the anterior abdominal wall
Palpation of abdominal wall: Superficial and deep palpation (pg 80)
- Percussion of underlying organs: liver (pg 83)
- Auscultation of bowel sounds (pg 82)
Demonstrate palpation of arterial pulses: 1) Abdominal aorta
Map the dermatomes of the abdominal region: T8, T10 & T12
Describe sites of referred pain from visceral organs
