Q

what happens when an animal cell is placed in a hypotonic solution?

Q

what happens when a plant cell is placed in a isotonic solution?

A

The plant cell is flaccid as water is neither entering the cell nor exiting(0 net movement)

Q

what happens when an plant cell is placed in a hypotonic solution?

A

The plant cell is turgid as water is entering the cell(the cell cannot lyse as it has a cell wall and is in the optimum state)

Q

why is the hypotonic state ideal for plants?

A

The vacuole exerts a lot of turgal pressure onto the cell wall and pushes it outwards when in the hypotonic state. This allows plants to stay upright as they have no skeleton.
