Define Osmosis
Osmosis is the diffusion of water from a dilute solution to a more concentrated solution, through a selectively permeable membrane.
Define transpiration
Evaporation from leaf cells followed by diffusion through stomata
Name factors that effect the rate of tanspiration
Wind/wind speed Temperature Surface Area Humidity (Vaseline)
Explain how cells become Turgid
Surrounded by a weaker solution Vacuole expands Pushes cell membrane against cell wall Causes Turgor Cell wall stops membrane expanding too far
Explain how cells become plasmolysed
Surrounded by a more concentrated solution Cell loses water Loses Turgor Membrane pulls away from cell wall Vacuole shrinks Process called plasmolysis
Explain the weighing method to measure transpiration
Record mass of apparatus+plant
Leave for given time
Record mass+change at end
Divide change in mass by time(to find rate)
Name variable(Wind/temps tire/humidity)
Repeat for reliability to obtain averages
