Oscillations Flashcards
1
Q
What is the SHM equation
A
a= -w^2 x
2
Q
when to use x= Asinwt/Acoswt
A
Sin when starting from equilibrium, cos when starting from amplitude.
3
Q
Effects of damping on oscillator?
A
Amplitude decreases at all frequencies. Max amplitude occurs at a lower frequency.
4
Q
What is resonance and what does it cause?
A
When driving frequency = natural frequency. Causes the Amplitude to rapidly increase and the system to fail.
5
Q
Critical/heavy/light damping
A
Critical not one oscillation. Heavy amplitude decreases rapidly. Light amplitude decreases slowly.
6
Q
What is a forced oscillation?
A
When an external driving force causes an oscillator to oscillate a specific frequency.
