Post extraction advice
For the next 24 hour avoid:
-Rinsing mouth with any fluids or spitting as this may dislodge the clot trying to form.
Hot fluids such as tea, coffee and soup as you may burn your mouth or lips while numb
- Alcohol as this gets the blood moving through the body which results in a longer healing time to form a clot
- Smoking
- Exercise , this gets the blood pumping through the body which is going to encourage the extraction site to bleed more.
- LA should wear off within 3-4 hours
- if still sore at the extraction site once the anaesthetic has worn off take what you would normally use for a headache
- Avoid aspirin as this thins the blood
- Eat soft food for the next couple of days
- If sutured were placed they take 7+ days to dissolve .
- If the bleeding starts up again use the gauze in your pack and roll it up into a sausage and place over the socket , making sure to bite down for at least 10 minutes or until the bleeding subsides.
- if after 10 minutes the socket is still bleeding call the practice or if out of hours call 111.
- After 24 hours start using hot salty mouthwashes after meals.
