Brudzinski’s Test
tuck chin to chest.
+resistance, pain and /or hip flexion
Indicates: meningeal irritation
Kernig Sign
supine-bring knee and hip to 90, then extend leg
+ resistance and/or pain
Indicates: meningeal irritation
Ortolani Test
supine. place chiropractic index finger on the greater trochanter and thumb on the trochanter
move hip into flexion then externally rotate placing P-A Pressure on the greater trochanter.
positive indicator: palpable clunk or click
Indicates: instability or dislocation of hip. anterior dislocation of the hip
Barlow Test
supine. place chiropractic index finger on the greater trochanger and thumb on the trochanter distract leg and internally rotate while placing A-P pressure on the greater trochanter.
Positive indicator: palpable click or clunk
Indicates: instability or dislocation of hip. posterior dislocation of hip.
AKA: Chappel Test or Hart Test
What if barlow and ortolani is positive on the same side?
Refer out. Possible hip displasia on that side.
