How to manage wedge fracture in ED (or GP)

Answer 1

If it appears old consider OP referral to Fracture Liaison Clinic

If it may be new (i.e. acutely painful or with an associated new injury):

• Can consider OP referral to spinal clinic at Bolton One if they are mobile with no neurology
• However if not mobile or if any red flags, refer to ortho on call

How are they managed by ortho:
Often conservative with analgesia and bed rest
Sometimes with spinal brace
