  1. right appliance right patient
  2. check appliance matches design sheet
  3. inspect and run finger over all surfaces to check for traumatic/sharp areas
  4. check integrity of wirework
  5. insert into pt mouth, look for areas of blanching or soft tissue trauma
  6. check posterior retention [flyover, arrowhead]
  7. check anterior retention
  8. activate appliance
  9. demonstrate correct removal/insertion and they can do it to
  10. book appt in 4-6 weeks

  1. will feel big and bulky
  2. initial excessive salivation that will pas in 24hrs
  3. may impinge on speech, read out loud to subside
  4. initial discomfort and ache, indicate its working
  5. worn 24/7 including meal times and sleep
  6. remove after every meals and clean with soft brush
  7. remove and store in protective container when contact/active sports
  8. avoid hard/sticky foods which may damage, caution with hot food/drinks
  9. missing appt and non compliance will lengthen tx time
  10. provide emergency contact details in case of any problems
