Define what a fracture is
Bone fractures are partial or complete breaks in a bone, which may spontaneously occur (due to diseases such as osteoporosis and associated chronic conditions) or result from a fall or a trauma (due to road traffic accidents, sports, etc.). Fractures are a global public health concern and are associated with significant morbidity, mortality and healthcare costs. (WHO, 2024)
What is a transverse bone fracture
when your bone is broken perpendicular to its length
what is a linear fracture
blunt forced towards the bone, in a linear way
what is oblique, nondisplaced fracture
A fracture where your bones don’t move out of place, they are still in contact
what is an oblique displaced fracture
the pieces of your bone moved so much that a gap formed around the fracture.
what is a spiral fracture
when one of your bones is broken with a twisting motion. Known as a torsion injury
What is a greenstick injury
A bone cracks on one side only, not all the way, normally found in kids because the flexibility of their bones
what is a comminuted fracture
instead of the bone breaking once, multiple fractures occur in that one bone
Who is more prone to a greenstick fracture and why
children, because there is more flexibility in their bones
