Ortho Flashcards
Surface marking of DP?
Deep to the inferior extensor retinaculum and lies between the extensor hallucis longus tendon and the medial tendon of the extensor digitorum longus muscle.
Surface marking of PT?
Behind medial malleolus
Contents of adductor canal?
Femoral artery and vein
Sapenous nerve
Nerve to vastus medialis
Where you place doppler probe to hear Peroneal artery?
Lateral soft area above ankle joint
Between fibula and tibia
Tarsal Bones
Proximal and Distal Rows?
Proximal
Talus
Calcaneum
Navicular
Distal
Cuboid
Cuneiforms x 3
Sciatic nerve roots?
L3-S4
Knee reflex?
L3-L4 via femoral nerve
Quadriceps
Ankle reflex?
S1 via sciatic nerve
Gastrocnemius
How can sciatic nerve be injured?
Posterior hip dislocations
Direct penetrating
Inappropriate placed injections
Start and end of popliteal artery?
Starts: When femoral artery enters hiatus of adductor Magnus
Ends: Lower border of popliteus
Becomes anterior and posterior tibial arteries
What artery is at risk in fracture of the femoral supracondylar?
Popliteal
Great saphenous vein
Course?
- Starts medial side of the dorsal venous arch of foot
- Ascends immediately in front of medial malleolus
- Passes behind medial border of patella
- Ascends up medial aspect of thigh
- Terminated at femoral vein, at point of saphenous opening which is 4cm below pubic tubercle
Short saphenous vein
Course?
- Commences on lateral side of the dorsal venous arch of foot
- Passes behind lateral malleolus
- Up back of thigh
- Pierces deep fascia of popliteal fossa to enter popliteal vein
Where does profounda femoris branch from?
Femoral artery
5cm below Inguinal ligament
Femoral artery
Start and end?
Starts: Continuation of external iliac below Inguinal ligament
Ends: Passes through hiatus in adductor magnus to become popliteal
