ortho 1 Flashcards
what is a smith#
volar angulation of distal radius, caused by falling backwards onto an outstretched hand
what is a bennetts fracture
intra-articular 1st carpometacarpal joint, caused by fights
what is a monteggia #
dislocation of proximal radioulnar joint in assoicattion with ulna #
what is galeazzi #
middle-distal radius #associated with dislocation or subluxation of distal radioulnar joint
what is a barton #
distal radius # with associated radiocarpal dislocation from fall onto extended and pronated wrist
holstein lewis #
of distal 1/3 of humerus resulting in entrapment of radial nerve
weber A
below level of syndesmosis
weber B
‘level of syndesmosis
weber C
above level of syndesmosis
maisonneuvre #
Maisonneuve fracture is a spiral fracture of the proximal third of the fibula associated with a tear of the distal tibiofibular syndesmosis and the interosseous membrane. There is an associated fracture of the medial malleolus or rupture of the deep deltoid ligament of the ankle. This type of injury can be difficult to detect.
how are weber C treated
The more proximal the injury, the higher the likelihood of ankle instability; consequently, Type C fractures almost always need surgical fixation.
what do weber #classify
malleolar fractures
which ankle fractures require surgical fixation
Ankle fractures that require an ORIF include:
Displaced bimalleolar or trimalleolar fractures
Weber C fractures
Weber B fractures with talar shift
Open fractures
what is the syndesmosis
bia and fibula are joined at the syndesmosis, a very strong fibrous structure comprised of the anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament (AITFL), posterior inferior tibiofibular ligament (PITFL), and the intra-osseous membrane.
which ligament is damaged in plantar flexion-inversion
anterior talofibular ligament
