What is exodontia?
A
- Extraction of the tooth
- Painless removal of the whole tooth, or root with minimal trauma to the investing tissues

Indications for exodontia
A
- Unrestorable teeth
- Periodontal disease
- Pericoronitis
- Teeth associated with large pathology
- Orthodontic reasons
- Trauma
- Teeth interfering with construction of a prosthesis
- Teeth within fracture line
- Abnormal teeth
- Any tooth impeding the eruption of another tooth
- Financial/Phobia

How to decide what the best treatment plan is for the patient
A
1. Informed Consent Discuss alternative options (whether to keep the tooth or not: a. Restore to function b. Restore but not functional c. Prognosis
- Is it safe to perform the extraction?
a. Check medical history - complex etc..
b. Know your limitations and when to refer - Cross Infection Control
a. Protect your patients
b. Protect yourselves
