Orpheus Flashcards
List 5 key rules of Orpehus
- Keep DHT + PEX disabled when operating in Orpheus, as this will prevent .torrent files being exposed to outsiders during seeding
- Don’t trade/sell accounts or invites
- Don’t browse using TOR or any other browsing proxies
- Don’t share .torrent files, as they are embedded with a personal passkey unique to you
- Give back what you take, through seeding/uploading non-dupes etc.
What is a dupe?
- A torrent that contains exactly the same content as an already existing one (usually track content, format, and bitrate)
What separates a release from a dupe?
- Different year of publishing
- Different label
- Bonus material
- Higher bitrate, different format
What different qualities of a release do not mean something is a distinct release?
- Different catalog number
- Different packaging
Define ‘trump’
- The process of replacing a torrent that does not match the Orpheus quality standards with a torrent that does not match the quality standards - just a higher quality than previously.
List the main types of trumps.
- Format
- Tag
- Folder
Briefly describe format, tag, and folder trumps.
- FORMAT: A torrent can be format trumped if you have a version with a higher bitrate or quality
- TAG: A torrent can be tag trumped if you have a version with all the relevant information, or if the existing torrent is missing / lacking correct information (title, album, artist, track number)
- FOLDER: A torrent can be folder trumped if it has nested folders, or the folder titles do not match the contents (e.g. album name, year, music format)
There are no available torrents for a release you have that is 128kbps in bitrate. Can you upload this?
- No, because if there are no pre-existing torrents of a release, you can upload it only if the bitrate is 192kbps and above (or averages to 192kbps, in variable cases)
What encodes can always be uploaded if there are no available torrents? (Lossy)
- mp3: 320kbps, V0, V2.
- AAC, if there are no pre-existing torrents : unless the release contains exclusive material (e.g. from iTunes)
Format trumps cannot occur even when your release has certain information that isn’t present in existing torrents. List these forms of information.
- .cue, .log, .m3u files
- album artwork
You have a lossless rip that does not exist anywhere on the tracker. Identify the qualifying standard for uploading this release.
- Must be ripped from the commercially released medium (CD, vinyl), not ripped from a rip - unless that is how it was commercially released.
List the conditions for format trumping lossless uploads.
- Lossless with a .log > lossless without .log
- Lossless with a .log that scores 100% on a ripping tool > lossless .log that scores less than 100% (although a .log that scores more than existing, though not 100% does not trump)
- Lossless with a .log from an accredited ripping tool > lossless with a .log from a non-certified tool
Identify the standard tag format for uploads.
- Track title
- Album
- Artist
- Track number
- Properly formatted, with appropriate capital letters when needed
List some circumstances for tag trumping.
- Entirely misspelled information
- Entirely lowercase information
- Missing information
List some circumstances for folder trumping.
- File names do not match track names
- Folder names do not match release (should include Album, Artist, Year of Release)
- Nested folders when not necessary
- Duplicate track numbers in the same folder when dealing with multiple-disc releases
