Orm Flashcards
ORM nomenclature
MCO 3500.27A
What is ORM
ORM is a decision making tool used by people at all levels to increase operational effectiveness by anticipating hazards and reducing the potential for loss thereby increasing the probability of a successful mission.
ORM
Increases our ability to make informed decisions by providing the best baseline of knowledge and experience available
ORM
Minimizes risks to acceptable levels commensurate with mission accomplishment. The amount of risk we will take in war is much greater than that we should be willing to take in peace, but the process is the same. Applying the ORM process will reduce mishaps, lower costs, and provide more efficient use of resources.
Hazard
A condition with the potential to cause personal injury or death, property damage or mission degradation
Risk
An expression of possible loss in the terms of severity and probability
Risk Assessment
The process of detecing hazards and assessing associated risks
Five step process of ORM
IAMIS
Identify hazards Assess hazards Make risk decisions Implement controls Supervise
Four principles of ORM
3AM
- Accept risk when benefits outweigh the cost
- Accept no unnecessary risk
- Anticipate and manage risk by planning
- Make risk decisions at the right level

Hearing Protection
Foot Protection
Eye Protection
Head Protection
Kevlar or helmet, in case of falling of flying objects.
Hearing Protection
Ear inserts of Ear muffs
Single Hearing Protection- Noise levels greater than 84dBA with peak levels of 140dBA or greater.
Double Hearing Protection- Noise levels exceeding 104dBA
Foot Protection
Boots
Eye Protection
Goggles, when working in eye hazardous areas
Hazardous Material
Any material that because of its quantity, concentration, or physical or chemical characteristics, may pose a substantial hazard to human health or the environment when incorrectly used, purposefully released, or accidentally spilled.
