ORIGINS OF PSYCHOLOGY (Wundt) Flashcards
definition of empirical
detailed and careful observations and measurements
definition of objective
minimising bias and eliminating subjective ideas i.e laboratory experiment
definition of subjective
the accurate and orderly collection of data by observational/experiment
definition of replicable
repeating a study to verify the validity of the results
what does it mean by using controlled environments it may reduce ecological validity of findings ( refer to mundane realism)
it ensures high control in research and ensures that it leads to contrived situations which don’t always tell us much about how behaviour is in the real world
why are objective and replicable why does this mean scientific methods are reliable?
objective and replicable there more reliable because they are repeated and unbiased experiments
Wundt is called ‘the father of experimental psychology’ what are the specific contributions that he made to be called this (key facts about Wundt)
- he opened the first laboratory to become invested into psychological experiments at the university of Leipzig in 1879.
