Who is Willhelm Wundt?

A

First person to call himself a psychologist and used experimental methods to study human behaviour.

What is meant by the term introspection?

A

A process Willhelm Wundt used to examine his subjects thoughts, he believed he could train people to observe their own mental processes. Wundt would present an image to the participant and ask them to describe their inner processes and then compare participants responses.

Why might Willhelm Wundts methods be considered as unreliable?

A

Wundt’s approach was non-observable meaning it may include bias and therefore be highly subjective, and his method of introspection meant his results couldn’t be reproduced by other researchers

Define the terms objective and replicable when referring to the scientific approach

A

Objective- researchers don’t let their pre conceived ideas influence their results
Replicable- observations ca be repeated by the same or other researchers to make sure the same results can be obtained

What is meant by the term ecological validity?

A

How reliable the results may be due to the setting/ conditions of the study e.g. in a controlled lab results may be skewed as it is set up purposely for the study therefore participants may act differently than they would normally
