Origins Flashcards
Science (BBT was the reason for the creation of the universe)
BBT meant the universe was hot and dense, expanding quickly to create an explosion.
Backed up by the abundance of elements that could only have been created by the kind of heat and pressure created by the BB.
Literal Christians (The Bible should be read literally)
According to Genesis, the universe was created in 6 literal days, this is a matter of faith not science.
Believing science means that you don’t beleive in God as if science were right, God wouldn’t exist.
Liberal Christians (the bible should be interpreted)
The bible is not to be taken literally but does contain truth about God.
They see the bible as containing symbols and metaphors, telling us the importance of God.
Arguments for Science
BBT was an entirely natural event with no room for God.
Arguments against Science
The Bible did not mention the BB.
Scientific evidence can be flawed and so this doesn’t remove the idea that God created the universe.
Arguments for Literal Christian views
Only simple faith is needed, not complicated science.
The Bible doesn’t need to be interpreted.
Arguments against Literal Christian views
Scientific evidence is not even considered which may be seen as naive.
If Genesis is taken literally then so is the rest of the Bible eg. Hitting children.
Arguments for Liberal Christians view
It avoids the problems in Genesis 1.
They are open to modern science and believe that God gave the scientists the knowledge to figure out how He created the universe.
Arguments against Liberal Christian views
If you reject Genesis then you may end up rejecting the rest of the Bible and God.
It may be hard to work out what is true and what is symbolic.
