Abandonment, being stranded and forgotten.

Doubt, confusion, questioning her judgement due to new environment.

Un- thought of and startling - suggests new environment leads to unexpected events and places which confuse her.
Last paragraph - change - “my tongue shedding its skin like a snake”
Metaphor - literally a snake replaces its old skin with new skin, suggests she adapted to the environment by changing her accent.
Last paragraph - change - “forget or don’t recall or change”
Power of three, suggests the speakers life took a turn and became different.
Loss - “all childhood is an emigration”
Metaphor - moving from one thing to another - suggests loss of identity because she moved from her home country so young.
