External oblique
Origin: Lower ribs
Insertion: Linea alba, pubic crest, iliac crest
Movement: Flexion, lateral flexion and rotation of lumbar vertebrae; abdominal compression (rotate trunk and spine)
Rectus abdominis
Origin: Inguinal ligament; iliac crest; costal cartilages of lower ribs
Insertion: Xiphoid process, costal cartilages of ribs
Movement: Flexion and rotation of lumbar vertebrae; abdominal compression
Trapezius
Origin: Occipital bone; vertebrae
Insertion: Acromion and spinous process of scapula; clavicle
Movement: Extend neck, move scapula, tilt/turn head and neck
Pectoralis major
Origin: Clavicle, sternum, costal cartilages of ribs 1-6
Insertion: Humerus
Movement: Prime mover of shoulder flexion; medial rotation of arm; Shoulder adduction (adducts shoulders horizontally to pull arms across the chest)
Deltoid
Origin: Clavicle, acromion and spine of scapula
Insertion: Deltoid tuberosity of humerus
Movement: Prime mover of shoulder abduction;
When only specific fibers are active ➞ Shoulder flexion, extension, and rotation of arm

Origin: Lower vertebrae, ribs, iliac crest
Insertion: Humerus
Movement: Prime mover of shoulder extension; shoulder adduction; medial rotation of arm

Origin: Coracoid process and glenoid tubercle of scapula
Insertion: Radial tuberosity
Movement: Elbow flexion; forearm supination
Brachialis
