What is a map?
A map is a line drawing to scale, of a portion of the earths surface as seen from above
What is orienteering?
Orienteering is I’ll competitive form of land navigation where cadets use a map and compass to locate control points on a course within a limited time period.
Named the five basic colors on a map and what they stand for?
Blue: water Green: vegetation Black: Man made objects Red: major roads and highways Brown: elevation and relief
What are the major terrain features?
Hill, ridge, valley, saddle and depression
What are the minor terrain features?
Draw and spur
What are the supplementary terrain features?
Cliff, cut and fill
How large is a grid square?
1000 meters by 1000 meters
What are the three types of contour lines?
Index, intermediate and supplementary
What is the cardinal rule whenever reading grid coordinates on a topographic map
Read right and up

What is communication?
