Anatomical Position
body straight, feet together, arms at side, palms forward (common visual point of reference)
What is the Dorsal Cavity made up of? (on test)
Cranial & Spinal Cavity
What is the Ventral Cavity made up of? (on test)
thoracic & abdominopelvic cavities
Sagittal Plane
vertical line that sections the body into left and right (line does not need to be in middle)
Midsagittal Plane
The Sagittal Plane but with the line in the middle of body also called as median or midline
Frontal Body Plane
Divides body into anterior (front) & posterior (back) parts
Transverse Body Plane
cuts horizontally and divides the body into superior (top) & inferior (bottom), also known as cross section
Superior
toward the head/upper part of the body
Inferior
Away from head/towards the bottom
Ventral (Anterior)
front of body
Dorsal (Posterior)
back of the body/behind
Medial
toward or at the midline of the body
Lateral
away from midline, sides
Intermediate
between two structures (on exams this will have named 3 stuctures while others have 2)
Proximal
near the point of attachment (only needed with hips/arms)
Distal
frather from point of attachment (only used with hips/arms)
Superficial
Toward or at the body surface (mostly skin)
Deep
Away from body surface more internal
Abdominal Region
Anterior (front) of body trunk (butt) inferior (away) to ribs
Acromial
point of shoulder
Antecubital
Anterior surface of elbow/front of elbow
Axillary
armpit
