This refers to the pouches connected to the main alimentary canal at the junction of the proventriculus and the midgut. It’s a single layer of thick cells capable of absorbing nutrients.
malpighian tubules
separate waste products from nutrients that are returned to the hemolymph, waste products travel through the tubes as urine. (like a kidney)
fat body
primary metabolic cells, process nutrients, makes the yolk of eggs and performs numerous metabolic functions (like a human liver)
spiracle
The exterior muscular valve in the respiratory system. When spiracles open, air can enter the trachea and carbon dioxide is released.
