Meninges

A

Composed of 3 connective tissue membranes found within the dorsal cavity and serve as a protective covering of the brain and spinal cord. The meninges from outer to inner layer are: dura mater, arachnid mater and pia mater.

Cutaneous Membrane

A

Forms the outer layer of the body and consists of a thin layer of stratified squamous epithelium attached to a thicker underlying layer of a connective tissue. This is skin.

Connective Tissue

A

Supports and connects tissues of the body. Divided into 4 general groups: connective tissue proper, cartilage, bone and blood.

Urinary

A

Includes 2 kidneys, 2 ureters, a bladder and a urethra. The urinary system produces urine for excretion of metabolic waste and fluid and electrolyte balance, and provides transportation and temporary storage of urine prior to the intermittent process of urination.

A

Comprised of the heaet and the blood vessels, working together to move blood throughout the body. Blood provides nutrients and oxygen to all organs and tissues within the body.

Endocrine

A

Comprised of glands located throughout the body producing various hormones. Includes the pineal gland, pituitary gland, thyroid gland, thymus, adrenal gland, pancreas, ovaries and testes. These glands secrete hormones that regulate bodily processes in coordination with the nervous system. The 2 systems together can be referred to as the Neuroendocrine System.
