North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)

A

an intergovernmental military alliance between 30 member states – 27 European, one transcontinental, and two North American. Established in the aftermath of World War II on the insistence of the Truman administration in the United States, the organization implements the North Atlantic Treaty, which was signed on April 4th, 1949.

League of Nations

A

first worldwide intergovernmental organisation whose principal mission was to maintain world peace. It was founded in 1920 by the Paris Peace Conference that ended the First World War. Ceased operations in 1946 but many of its components were relocated into the new United Nations.
