Tall organizational structure
There are a number of “floors” or “levels” between the employees working on the ground and leaders at the top of the organizations
Flat organizational structure
Only a couple of floors or level separating the employees working on the ground and leaders at the top of the organizations
Functional
divides the company based on specialty
-traditional business with a sales department, marketing department, customer service department, etc.
Divisional
companies that structure leadership according to different products or projects
-Ex: Gap company = Old Navy, Gap and Banana Republic
Matrix
employees have multiple bosses and reporting lines
- Employees report to a department boss for work-related matters and to a corporate boss for discipline, salary, promotions and company-wide policies.
Hybird
spreads power across multiple positions
- open up the lines of communication and collaboration while removing layers within the organization
Decentralization
daily operations and decision making responsibilities are decided by lower management or lower level employees
Alternative Work Structure
gives employees the freedom and flexibility to handle their work on their own time versus a set office schedule
Enrichment
an approach to job design that is based on the assumption that in order to motivate personnel, the job itself must provide opportunities for achievement, recognition, responsibility, advancement and growth
Job Sharing
two people are hired on a part-time or reduced-time basis to perform a job normally fulfilled by one person working full-time.
Contract Work
employment involves hiring a person for a specific job under particular terms for a fixed period of time
