Why do we study organizational culture?
-Past theories of organizations were based on rationality, people act scientifically and will behave in a rational matter. When in reality behavior in organizations is rarely rational, and these nonrational behaviors seem connected for members.

Organizational Culture Is?
A communicatively constructed, historically based, system of values, assumptions and interpretive frameworks, that guide and constrain organizational members as they perform their organizational roles and confront the challenges of their environment.
What does communicatevly constructed mean?
Not preexisting, not set in stones, not a law
What does historically based mean?
As it has moved through history values form 10 to 18 years ago are still important.
What does that guide and constrain organizational members mean?
Numerical pattern didn’t work, but we thought it would.
What does perform their organizational roles and confront the challenges of their environment mean?
Lokata developed vaules based on the challenges of their environment, badlands had no sense of science, rituals made sense of it. THATS WHAT CULTURES DO. Culture is tied together by people and the environment.
