Between two structures / organs in body
Ipsilateral ( Ips-a-lateral )
On the same sides of body/ structure Ex. Left hand and left foot are both on same side (ipsi = same)
Contralateral ( Con-tra-lateral )
On the opposite sides of body/ structure Ex the left arm and right leg are contralateral (contra = opposite)
Proximal
Towards the truck (stomach region of body) Ex the knee is proximal to the foot (proximal = proximity)
Distal
Away from the trunk (stomach region of body) Ex the foot is distal to the knee
