What is gas exchange?
The process of taking in oxygen and giving out carbon dioxide
Where does gas exchange occur?
The respiratory system
What does the salivary glands do?
This produces a digestive juice which is added into the mouth
What does the liver do?
This produces bile, which helps digestion
What does the small intestine do?
here digestion is completed, and absorption of soluble foods occurs
What does the large intestine do?
Water is absorbed from the undigested food, which then produces faeces
What does the stomach do?
This adds acids and it is where digestion occurs
What does the pancreas do?
This produces a digestive juice, which is added into the small intestine
What do enzymes do?
Enzymes are biological catalysts, they speed up the digestion of nutrients

Carbohydrates into simple sugars
Proteases break down..
Proteins into simple sugars
Lipase breaks down..
Lipids (fats) down into fatty acids and glycerol
What is the carbohydrates role in our body?
Main source of energy
What is the lipids role in our body?
Fats and oil provide energy
What is the proteins role in our body?
Growth and repair of cells and tissues
