What does the PRS for Music do?
They collect money for the songwriter, performer, publisher and record label whenever the song is played, streamed or performed in public or used in film or TV.
What is a venue?
A place. It could be small or large, inside or outside. Music venues often include pubs, clubs, bars, theatres, arenas and stadiums
What is a record label?
An organisation which makes and sells songs and develops the artists career
What is a touring production?
A band/artist/show which tours around, playing in a different venue each night
What does BECTU stand for?
Broadcasting, Entertainment, Cinematograph and Theatre Union
What is Equity?
A union which represents actors and performers
What does BECTU do?
Represent people working in broadcasting, media and entertainment
What does PR stand for?
Public Relations
What is a publishing company?
An organisation that collects and distributes royalties to the songwriters and organises licenses for anyone who wishes to use the song
What is a broadcasting company?
A company which communicates information to the public via TV, radio or the internet
What does MU stand for?
Musicians Union
What is The Music License?
A license which grants a venue or business the rights to perform or play music publicly and/or to use it in a stream, TV, film or radio programme.
What is a union?
An organisation which gives advice and guidance to it’s members on issues such as employment, payment and the law.
What does MPG stand for?
Music Producers Guild
What is a service company?
A company who can be hired and paid to provide a service. This could be PR, marketing, unions, royalties collection.
