Aim
To investigate the effect of water velocity on the average species richness of freshwater invertebrates.
Underlying 1
The method used was kick Sampling, which is mainly a qualitative sampling technique meaning it can give us infomation on the different species living in an area.
living
Method sample
Freshwater invertebrates were stamped at each site using kick sampling and identification keys.
Method water
Water velocity was calculated by recording the time taken for a ball to float 2m with a stopwatch, the time and distance was later applied to a speed distance time equation
Unit for water velocity
ms^-1
Site 1 processed data
Wv 0.10
Average sr 4.6
Site 2 processed data
Wv 0.44
Average sr 4.4
Site 3 processed data
Wv 0.15
Average sr 3.6
How was average species richness found?
The average species richness was found by finding the species richness of each sample at a site and averaging it.
