Define Organic Winemaking
Organic winemaking refers to wines made with organically grown grapes and complies with rules that restrict certain practices from being performed during winemaking.
What is allowed during organic winemaking?
Many conventional practices are allowed however additives and processes are controlled by Ecocert. Organic raw materials should be used where possible. Certain processes e.g. de-alcoholisation are excluded.
Is SO2 allowed in organic winemaking?
Yes, but the limits vary across countries.
In USA, no SO2 is allowed to be added.
The EU allows regulated additions of SO2.
How are wineries certified as organic?
Certified status is issued by local associations or is determined at country level
