What is the definition of organic chemistry?
The chemistry concerning the compounds of carbon.
What is the definition of a hydrocarbon?
A compound that contain Carbon and Hydrogen ONLY.
What is the Empirical formula?
The simplest integer ratio of atom of each element in a compound. (Cancel down the numbers as much as possible)
What is the Molecular formula?
The actual number of each atoms of each element in a molecule.
What is a homologous series?
A family of organic compounds with similar chemical properties.
What is the general formula?
A formula which can represent all the members of a homologous series of compounds.
What is the general formula for all the alkenes?
Cn H2n+2
What is the structural formula?
A formula which shows how the atoms in the molecule are arranged
What is the displayed formula?
Shows all the bonds in a molecule as individual lines
