Organelles Flashcards
What is the nucleus?
The information and control center of the cell. Contains genetic information.
What is the function of the nucleolus?
The structure in the nucleus which produces ribosomes for protein synthesis.
What is cytoplasm?
The liquid inside the cell that all the organelles are suspended in.
What do mitochondria do?
Organelles which provide cells with energy by using sugar as a fuel source.
What is the role of ribosomes?
The organelle responsible for protein synthesis.
What is a vacuole?
Organelles that store materials.
What do vacuoles store?
Materials such as water, salts, and carbohydrates.
What is the function of lysosomes?
Organelle that digests and breaks down certain materials in the cell.
What are centrioles?
Organelles that are involved in cell division.
Where are centrioles found?
Only found in animal cells.
What is the Golgi body?
Organelle that stores, modifies & packages proteins from the RER.
What does the smooth endoplasmic reticulum do?
Organelle that produces lipids for the cell.
What is the rough endoplasmic reticulum’s function?
Transports proteins made by the ribosomes to the Golgi body.
What is the cell wall?
Helps to support, strengthen, and protect the cell.
Where is the cell wall found?
Only in plant cells.
What are chloroplasts?
Photosynthetic organelles.
Where are chloroplasts found?
Found in plant cells only.
