Organelle Functions Flashcards
What does the nucleus do?
It stores genetic material and controls the activities of the cell.
What does the nuclear membrane do?
Seperates the nucleus from the cytoplasm.
What does the cytoplasm do?
It is a fluid that helps maintain the shape of a cell and helps materials flow through the cell.
What does the mitochondria do?
It is the powerhouse of a cell, it uses chemical energy out carry out the functions of a cell.
What does the cell membrane do?
Inner layer of the cell wall. The cell membrane controls what goes in and out of the cell.
What does the chloroplast do?
Uses light as energy to produce sugar from carbon dioxide and water. This is called photsynthesis
What does the cell wall do?
Provides protection and support to the outside of the cell membrane.
What does the endoplasmic reticulum do?
The rough and smooth er both process molecules and the rough ER holds the ribosomes that creates protiens while the smooth ER helps in metabolic tasks.
What does the golgi do?
Packages and Processes protiens and lipid molecules
What does the ribosomes do?
The ribosomes are located on the ER and create protiens.
What does the vacuole do?
Stores nutrients and waste, helping increase size of cell.
What does the cell wall do?
Outer layer of the cell that provides strength and support to the cell.
What does the Motichondria do?
It is the powerhouse of a cell and it generates the chemical enrgy that is used to carry out functions.
