Organelle Flashcards
Cell Membrane
Semipermeable
Cytoplasm
Contains networks for support and organelles
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
Transportation of molecules with cell and protein synthesis. Covered in ribosomes
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
No ribosomes, used for lipid synthesis
Ribosomes
Attached to rough ER, involved in protein synthesis, made of protein and RNA, provides enzymes and support
Golgi Apparatus
Packages and delivers proteins made by ribosomes,
Mitochondria
Powerhouse of cell, releases ATP
Lysosomes
Enzyme filled with sacs used for getting rid of foreign or old waste
Peroxisomes
Houses enzymes for catalysis of biochemical reactions
Microtubules/microfilaments
Forms cytoskeleton in cell, filaments are proteins, tubules are bigger
Centrosome
Near Golgi body, no membrane, centrioles transfer chromosomes during mitosis
Cilia
Short, ordered, precise movement
Flagella
Long, random, singular
Vesicles
Human version of vacuoles, used for transport of liquid or solids
Nucleus
Houses genetic material, surrounded by membrane that allows for transport
