Organ Systems Flashcards
List the 11 organ systems.
CIrculatory System, Respiratory System, Musculoskeletal System, Nervous System, Endocrine System, Excretory System, Immune System, Skeletal System, Digestive System, Integumentary System, and Reproductive System.
What is the function of the circulatory system?
Transports nutrients, dissolved gases, and wastes to and from individual cells in the organism.
What is the function of the respiratory system?
Exchanges oxygen and carbon dioxide between blood and the external environment.
What is the function of the digestive system?
Breaks down food into small particles, called nutrients that the circulatory system can transport to all body cells.
What is the function of the musculoskeletal system?
Provides structural support to the body. Protects internal structures from the outside environment. Plays a role in movement and locomotion.
What is the function of the nervous system?
Responds to changes in the external and internal environment of the body. Coordinates the function of all other organ systems.
What is the function of the endocrine system?
Its eight glands each have a unique job to do. It releases hormones that are so “smart,” they only target specific receptors. It even has a built-in system for sensing the precise levels of hormones in the blood so it knows whether to increase or decrease hormone production.
What is the function of the excretory system?
Helps with exiting waste after the digestion process.
What is the function of the integumentary system?
The most obvious role of the skin is to protect the body from external aggression.
What is the function of the immune system?
The organs and processes of the body that provide resistance to infection and toxins.
What is the function of the reproductive system?
The reproductive system is an organ system that functions primarily for reproduction.
What is the function of the skeletal system?
Used for protecting organs.
What are the organs in the circulatory system?
The heart and blood vessels are the main organs in this system.
What are the organs in the respiratory system?
Lungs, windpipes and blood vessels are the main organs in this system.
What are the organs in the digestive system?
Mouth, esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, small and large intestines and the anus.
