consists of: skin, hair, nails, sweat and oil, glands
function: waterproof, cushion/protects deeper tissue, sweating, sensation, synthesize vitamin D
Skeletal System
consists of: bones, cartilage, ligament, joints
function: protection, support, framework of the body, making blood cells, store minerals
Muscular System
consists of: skeletal, cardiac, smooth muscles
function: all contracts to produce movement
Nervous System
consists of: brain, spinal cord, nerves, sensory receptors
function: fast-acting, controlling system, respond to internal and external stimuli
Endocrine System
consists of: gland that secretes hormones which control the body
function: slower action than the nervous system
Cardiovascular System
consists of: heart and blood vessels
function: heart pumps blood, blood vessels conduct blood and allow for exchange between blood and tissue
Respiratory System
consists of: nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi and its branches, lungs
function: supply O2 and remove CO2, regulates body pH
Lymphatic System
consists of: lymph, lymphatic vessels, and lymph organs (spleen, tonsils, etc.)
function: return fluid leaked from blood back to the blood vessels, filter and cleanse lymph and blood, involved in immunity
Digestive System
consists of: digestive tracts, accessory organs
function: ingestion, digestion, absorption, defecation
digestive tract: continuous tube that includes mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus
accessory organs: teeth, tongue, salivary glands, liver, gall bladder, pancreas
Urinary System
consists of: kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra
function: removes nitrogenous waste, maintains water and salt, regulates acid-base balance of the blood, makes hormones and vitamin D
Reproductive System
in male: testes, scrotum, penis, glands, ducts
in female: ovaries, uterine tubes, uterus, vagina, glands
function: produce gametes and hormones
