-UK operates under opt out system
-Presumed consent = more organs but less ethical
-Informed Consent = Less organs more ethical

-1960 def of death - if heart stopped beating
-todays def of death - ‘the irreversible loss of the capacity for consciousness mixed with irreversible capacity to breathe’
Christian Belief - Against
-Against HB donation - not dead in the eyes of god - soul hasn’t left body if heart beats
-Against PC - What if donor didn’t want organs removed

Humanist belief - Against
-Against Opt in - less organs because people are too busy to sign up to donate
-Against hard Opt out - people should have a chance to keep their organs if their family knows they want to
Utilitarian Belief - Against
-Against Opt in - less organs because people are too busy to sign up to donate
Against soft Opt out - People need organs and donors are dead anyway so why not just take them for the greater good
Christian Belief - For
-Opt in - donor gives consent to have organs harvested
-Living donors - Selfless, putting people before yourself
-NHB donors - see them as fully dead - can harvest organs
Humanist Belief - For
-Soft Opt out - not ethical, however families choose if organs are harvested - More organs
-HB - Organs are fresher - legally dead
-Living donor - Selfless act to help those in need
Utilitarian Belief - For
-Hard Opt out - Organs are harvested unless directly told by donor not too
-HB donation- fresh organs, more organs donated
