Q

Defend the inspiration of Scriptures extra-biblically. (10)

A

Scripture contains no contradictions, or falsehoods (Internally consistent).

The Internal Consistency of Scripture (99.5% pure) is remarkable since it has: at least 66 different documents, 40 authors of different educational and cultural backgrounds, a dating span of about 1500 years, and contains three different languages

Over 25,000 partial and complete ancient, handwritten manuscripts of the New Testaments

Variants of manuscripts are insignificant (no doctrinal changes or changes in event details not elsewhere recorded)

Hundreds are said to have witnessed the Resurrection of Jesus and none seemed to have disputed this claim

Writings are forthright about character’s failures and rely on the testimony of sinners and women

Disciples are willing to die for their claims (and did)

No archaeological discovery has ever discredited claims of Scripture.

Most if not all New Testament writings are written before 70 A.D.

Extra-biblical writings (Assyrians, Babylonians, Romans) verify the accuracy of biblical records; at least 50 O.T people and 30 N.T. are proven historical figures.

Share your view of being created in the likeness and image of God

A

Likeness of God is to be a Representative of God:

* Having Dominion Over Creation
* As Though We Were the "Graven" Image/Idol of God/God's Temple Statues

Which Requires Us to Be Like God:

* Rationally
* Morally
* Having Free Will

Q

Is man dichotomous or trichotomous? How do you support your view Scripturally? (10)

A

Not an issue to be dogmatic about. Scripture can be used to support both views.

Scripture consistently presents man as one unified being. The “division” of us as one being is relatively trivial.

Only in death (spiritual or physical) are elements of our nature separated.

Part of our hope of eternal life is the eternal reunification of these elements of man.

Scripture uses many terms to describe both man’s immaterial nature (Soul, Spirit, Heart, Mind, Inward Man) material nature (Body, Flesh, Earthen Vessel, Earthly Tent, Outward Man).

Hebrews 4:12-13 shows that there IS a dividing point between soul and spirit, but that this is discernible only to God.

Soul and Spirit are also used interchangeably.

Both Soul and Spirit depart when one dies.

Both Soul and Spirit Sin.

Because of this, I believe it is best to take a dichotomous view in regard to the major division of man, while acknowledging that Scripture uses many synonyms and concepts to describe unified man.

1 For this reason I, Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles—

2 assuming that you have heard of the stewardship of God’s grace that was given to me for you,

3 how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly.

4 When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ,

5 which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit.

6 This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.

7 Of this gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God’s grace, which was given me by the working of his power.

8 To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

9 and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things,

10 so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.

11 Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called “the uncircumcision” by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands—

12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility

15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace,

16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.

17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.

18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.

19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,

20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,

21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord.

22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.

What do you believe regarding the topic of annihilation?

A

A belief that is founded more on fallen human sensibilities than it is on Scripture, since the idea of eternal ‘hell’ seems awful. But the Bible teaches eternal punishment/separation for the unsaved.

A belief in annihilationism results from a misunderstanding of one or more of the following doctrines: 1) the consequences of sin, 2) the justice of God, 3) the nature of hell.

What do you believe regarding the topic of hell?

A

Hell, in the way that it is most often imagined in our culture, is best understood as Sheol; specifically the ‘compartment’ where the unsaved dead await their final judgment at the Great White Throne.

Though often imagined as the eternal dwelling of the saved, it isn’t. That, instead, is the Lake of Fire; a place of eternal physical and spiritual punishment and separation for the unsaved after they have received their eternal bodies and been judged at the Great White Throne Judgment.

What do you believe regarding the topic of universal reconciliation?

A

Another belief that is founded more on fallen human sensibilities than it is on Scripture, since the idea of eternal ‘hell’ seems awful.

Universal Reconciliation requires a faulty understanding of God’s righteousness (often through over-emphasis of God’s love and compassion), the seriousness of sin, and the nature of hell.

Scripture clearly teaches that not all will be saved and that only those who repent and believe in the name and sacrificial work of the Lord Jesus Christ will be saved.

What are your views on human cloning?

A

Humans are valuable as God’s unique image bearers and should not be treated as commodities to be bought and sold.

Cloning for the sake of organ donation cheapens human life and would result in the organ harvesting of an individual human being.

Moreover, this process would require the destruction of multiple human embryos (human lives). That life begins a conception is supported by passages such as: Psalm 139:13-16; Jeremiah 1:4-5; Luke 1:15.

Defend the Pre-trib Rapture View

A

The Body of Christ church is never mentioned on Earth during the Tribulation.

The Body of Christ church is saved from God’s Wrath and the whole seven year Tribulation is God’s wrath.

The Body of Christ’s departure explains the sudden apostasy by the removal of the restrainer who is the Holy Spirit.

The Rapture is a signless and imminent event.

Jacob’s trouble/70th week of Daniel, is a for the nation of Israel.

The number of people at the end of the Millennial rule of Christs supports a pretribulational rapture over a posttribulational Rapture.

The Pretribulation Rapture view best explains the the time of peace and safety that precedes sudden destruction.

The Rapture and the Second Coming are different events.

103
Q

How does the number of people at the end of the Millennial rule of Christ support a pretribulational rapture view over a posttribulational Rapture view?

A

Children are born during the Millennial Kingdom after the human population is nearly destroyed and resurrected people do not bear children.

There are believers at the end of the Tribulation who will enter the Millennial Kingdom and bear children.

There is an innumerable number of people born during the 1,000 years who rebel against God.

104

Judgment Seat of Christ | Sheep and Goats
Precedes Trib | Precedes Millennium

3 Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,

4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.

5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?

Q

How do you feel about transgender ministers?

A

I believe Transgenderism is a mental disorder that effects a persons self-image and understanding of reality/truth in such a way that it disqualifies them from ministry.

Ministry is not an appropriate environment for dealing with such mental illness and the other issues that come with it such as: depression, suicidal thoughts, and sexual perversion.

134
Q

How have you used the Bible in counseling, Christian education, and church missions program?

A

I have only counseled couples during pre-marital counseling in regard to spirituality, finances, communication, sex, and the purpose of marriage.

I have avoided the use of videos and other resources during Sunday School to focus learning directly from the Word of God.

Church Missions is limited to what is mentioned during board meetings, offering for missionaries, and in the occasional sermon.

A

The Holy Spirit has brought comfort to grieving families that I cannot provide.

The Holy Spirit has given and sustained an attitude of unity through potentially divisive situations.

The Holy Spirit illuminates Scripture that we might understand truth and grow in our knowledge of spiritual things.

The Holy Spirit guides and points us toward Christ.

Q

What is the “emergent church” theology?

A

A movement without any official organization or doctrine

Adheres to the idea that as culture changes, a new church should “emerge.”

Currently, part of the rise of post-modernism; denies the absolute truth and replaces with relativism and subjectivity.

There is no standard emergent theology.

The movement emphasizes experience over reason, spirituality over religion, images over words, and feelings over facts.

Generally, the theology that comes from this movement is Liberal; often rejecting one or more core tenets of orthodox Christianity.

6and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

7so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

8For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,

9not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Q

Romans 6:1-11

A

What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound?

2By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?

3Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?

4We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

5For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.

6We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.

7For one who has died has been set free from sin.

8Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.

9We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.

10For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God.

11So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

155
Q

What is the difference between our position in Christ and our condition in Christ?

A

We become the righteousness of God in regard to our position in Christ when we are saved by grace through faith (trust) in Christ. This is our legal status as we are justified (declared righteous) by God despite being guilty sinners (our condition)

Our condition is that of guilty sinner and our condition does not conform to our position until after our resurrection. Until then, we are gradually being sanctified.

156
Q

2 Corinthians 5:18-20

A

18All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;

19that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.

164
Q

Romans 3:19-31

A

19Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God.

20For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.

21But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it—

22the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction:

23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

24and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

25whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.

26It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

27Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith.

28For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.

29Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also,

30since God is one—who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith.

31Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.

190
Q

How would you explain dispensationalism to a newcomer to your church?

A

Dispensationalism is a somewhat complicated meaning that represents a simple approach to Scripture.

The two major elements of Dispensationalism are 1) a literal interpretation of Scripture and 2) the view that the Church today is different from Israel in the Old Testament.

Literal Interpretation means using and understanding the words of the Bible as God meant them when he originally inspired them.

The Church today and Israel are different, in part, because God manages each differently as though they were different administrations/Dispensations.

For example….

	* Israel was in a privileged position before God as his chosen nation (Deuteronomy 7:6-8) while in the Church, all people are equal before God despite their nationality (Galatians 3:28); Israel was under the law.
	* Israel was under the Law given to them on Mt. Sinai (Exodus 19:3-6) and the Church is not under the Law Galatians 3:23-25).

8but it is because the LORD loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers, that the LORD has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

Q

Share, with Scriptural support, your view of the beginning of the Body of Christ (Acts 9) (please be specific).

A

The Body of Christ is part of the mystery revealed first to the Apostle Paul, which fits the pattern of God revealing major changes to his people beforehand.

After Paul is saved and called to minister to Gentiles on the road to Damascus after an encounter with Christ, he spends three years in Arabia before going to Jerusalem where the 12 apostles were. Paul’s escape from Damascus in the basket happens after the three years in Arabia, not before.

Since Paul was the sole recipient of the mystery, he had to have received it, at least in part, in Arabia before meeting with Peter or else someone would claim he received the mystery from Peter and the eleven.

After his three years in Arabia and short trip to Jerusalem, Paul spent 9 years in Syria and Cilicia before his “first” missionary journey (Galatians 1:18-2:1).

Body of Christ churches (Jew/Gentile equality) were planted at this time. We know this because in Acts 15, Paul goes into Syria and Cilicia to deliver a letter from the Jerusalem Council that was important for Body of Christ churches (Acts 15:22-29; 36-41).

22Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men from among them and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They sent Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brothers,

23with the following letter: “The brothers, both the apostles and the elders, to the brothers who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, greetings.

24Since we have heard that some persons have gone out from us and troubled you with words, unsettling your minds, although we gave them no instructions,

25it has seemed good to us, having come to one accord, to choose men and send them to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

26men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

27We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who themselves will tell you the same things by word of mouth.

28For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay on you no greater burden than these requirements:

29that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.”

39And there arose a sharp disagreement, so that they separated from each other. Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus,

Q

Do you believe that the Body of Christ will be a part of the Kingdom on earth during the Millennium?

A

Note: This is an area that I am still working through.

NO, I Do Not Believe that the Body of Christ will be a part of the Kingdom on earth during the Millennium.

Some suggest that the “armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, [that] were following him on white horses” (Revelation 19:14) are members of the Body of Christ. But this cannot be the case.

209
Q

Why do you think that the “armies of heaven” mentioned in Revelation 19:14 cannot be the Body of Christ? (6)

A

The Second Coming of Christ with his saints as depicted here is the subject of Old Testament prophecy (Jude 14) which was given while the mystery of the Body of Christ was still hidden; having yet to be revealed to the Apostle Paul.

The armies of heaven of Revelation 19:14 are the Old Testament Saints who are resurrected at the time of the Second Coming.

We know these to be (mostly) Israel because this is connected with the marriage supper of the lamb as God–through Christ– is finally wed to his now worthy bride.

The Millennial Kingdom is a promise for Israel; that God would remain faithful to them as his chosen people and the recipients of the blessings of his promises that are fulfilled in this kingdom.

Christ’s Second Coming is his coming as Conqueror to rule the nations as the rightful king from Israel. This kingdom is geographic (land) and political (literal kingdom). And these are not the nature of the Body Church, but of Israel.

The Millennial Kingdom is the time when the promise of the 12 Disciples sitting upon 12 thrones to rule over Israel is fulfilled (Matthew 19:28)

4Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

5The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection.

Q

In Regard to the Question About the Body of Christ Coming with Christ into the Millennial Kingdom, What About the Opposing View is Still a Struggle for You?

A

1 Thessalonians 4:17 and the teaching that after the Rapture, Body Church believers will “always be with the Lord.” Though this seems to imply that we must come with Christ, it does not change how we ought to interpret Revelation 19 and the Millennial Kingdom as part of God’s plan for Israel and the nations (not the Body of Christ).

Other texts that describe us reigning with Christ can be used to make a compelling case for reigning with Christ for the 1,000 year kingdom. These texts do not necessarily mean that we reign from the earth during the Millennium; though how this works/fits our heavenly ‘nature’ is a weak area in my understanding.

Q

Positive Aspects of the NPP (10)

A

Emphasizes Paul’s Identity as a Jewish Follower of the Messiah Who Did Not Give Up Judaism

Identifies Judaism as a Religion of Salvation By Grace; Strengthening the Point of Salvation By Grace Through Faith

Interprets Paul to have the boundary markers like circumcision and dietary laws at the forefront of his thinking, which supports the MADT principle of Jew/Gentile Equality in the Body of Christ and local churches. i.e., Gentile Believers do not need to adhere to the boundary marker rules that Jewish Believers hold to.

Pursues Scripture through the Historical-Grammatical method of interpretation; thereby emphasizing its importance and necessity in biblical scholarship (even if our conclusion differ).

Brings Clarity and Support to the Understanding of “justification” as a legal metaphor.

May Be correct in their suggestion that the Reformers turned Paul’s legal metaphor into the primary metaphor for all of Paul’s soteriology. We ought to not make this the only metaphor upon which all soteriological points are placed, i.e., “in Christ.”

Challenges the anti-Judaism and anti-Semitic results of primarily Lutheran theology in the 20th century.

The work of NPP Scholars has helped us to picture Judaism at the time of Christ in a way that more accurately reflects what it may have actually looked like; specifically in regard to salvation by Grace and not works.

Draw attention away from the legal metaphor of justification and toward the language of being “in Christ” as the only boundary marker that Christians ought to by identified by (a great help in the MADT perspective on baptism as a boundary marker today).

Sees Scripture as an unfolding story of redemption which lends itself nicely to Dispensational Theology’s strong view of progressive revelation

222
Q

Negative Aspects of the NPP (3)

A

Fails to Fully Recognize the Radical Change in Paul’s Life and Theology

Fails to Recognize Paul’s Teaching as a New Revelation from Jesus Instead of Paul’s Personal New Interpretation of the Hebrew Bible

Denies Justification as “Declared Righteousness” and denies imputed righteousness.

223
Q

What are the general beliefs of Open Theism?

A

Open Theism submits that human free will cannot be truly free if God always knows what the future holds. God has purposely limited himself to not knowing everything about the future in order to allow us true freedom to choose.

In most versions of open theism, natural causes will inevitably dictate how many aspects of the future will unfold and God may supernaturally know some aspects of the future, allowing for prophecy in Scripture. Yet how humans exercise their free will could change the future; hence, the future is open, not closed.

224
Q

What are the Problems with Open Theism? (5)

A

This view denies the omniscience of God (Genesis 6:5; Job 36:4; Psalm 139:2-4), taught in dozens of passages, all of which become meaningless since they, in their simplicity, affirm God’s omniscience.

This view eliminates any certainly that Christ will be victorious over Satan.

If God does not know the future, he must not be outside of time and is therefore not outside of space (material universe). Such a God cannot be eternal, is not infinite or perfect by nature, is not necessarily existent, ages with the passing of time, and is not the Creator.

This God cannot be morally perfect or blameless, since he cannot act or guide in a way that would guarantee a good outcome. His will would be called into question and would be impossible to determine as we make decisions.

The view does not adequately deal with the problem created regarding prophecy, for the sheer amount of prophecy of God that is fulfilled is an unbelievably miracle; all of which can be ruined and discount all of Scripture and theology if one free person freely chooses to do something that God did not anticipate and that destroys any possibility of fulfilling one of the prophecies.

229
Q

What is your view of Hebrews 6:1-6?

A

I believe this passage IS referring to true believers and not false or near converts (though these true believers are likely hypothetical).

Those that fall away (backslide) cannot again repent because their condition before Christ was permanently changed and sealed when the person first repented.

This, then, is not a warning that once salvation is lost it cannot be gained again. Instead, it is an explanation of how salvation is secure even for those who seem to fall away.

The author may even be posing this as a hypothetical situation, not to claim loss of salvation is possible, but to claim that even if this situation WERE to happen, it would be absurd to imply that the person would need to have Christ die again.

This text fits in perfectly with the rest of the book of Hebrews and support the doctrine of eternal security.

People cannot and need not be re-saved or re-repent, for Christ’s death was sufficient enough to secure our salvation (7:27; 9:12, 25-27)

Hebrews 9:12

A

he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.

233
Q

Hebrews 9:25-27

A

25Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own,

26for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

27And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment

234
Q

What is your view of James 2:20-26?

A

James uses the word “justified” to speak to a different aspect of salvation and works than Paul.

Paul says we are justified in that we are “declared righteous” or “acquitted” by faith apart from works (Romans 3:38).

James says we are justified in that we “shown to be righteous” by our works, just as faith without works is dead (James 2:17-18).

Salvation is by faith alone, but that faith will never be alone.

Not only are Paul and James NOT in disagreement, Paul agrees with James in the passage most often cited for salvation by grace alone through faith alone. Ephesians 8:9-10 says we are saved by grace through faith, not works AND we were created for good works that we should walk in.

235
Q

James 2:20-26

A

20Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless?

21Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar?

22You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works;

23and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God.

24You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.

25And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way?

26For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.

236
Q

Hebrews 6:1-6

A

Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,

2and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.

3And this we will do if God permits.

4For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit,

5and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come,

6and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.

237
Q

James 2:17-18

A

17So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

18But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

238
Q

What is your view of Matthew 24:13?

A

Jesus says this to his Jewish disciples in the context of speaking of the Tribulation.

Those who endure persecution, false teaching, hardships, etc. throughout the seven year Tribulation will be delivered/saved as Christ returns and they enter his wonderful Kingdom.

1 Timothy 3:1-7

The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task.

2Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

3not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive,

5for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church?

6He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil.

7Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil.

5This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you—

6if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination.

7For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain,

8but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined.

9He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.
