Ordforklaringer kapittel 1-4 Flashcards
Relative atomic mass, Ar
is the weighted average mass of the naturally occurring isotopes of the element relative to the mass of an atom of Carbon - 12
Relative isotopic mass
refers to the mass of a specific isotope
Relative molecular mass, Mr
is the mass of a molecule relative to the mass of an atom of Carbon-12, which is given the exact mass of 12
Nucleon number
number of protons + number of neutrons
Isotope
atoms with the same atomic number but different nucleon number. They only differ in the number of neutrons they contain
Atomic number
is the number of protons found in the nucleus of an atom and it is identical to the charge number of the nucleus
Ionisation energy
the energy needed to remove 1 mole of electrons from 1 mole of atoms of an element in the gaseous state to form 1 mole of gaseous ions
Lone pairs
pairs of electrons in the outer shell of an atom that are not bonded
Molar mass
the mass of a mole of substance in grams
Electronegativity
is a measure of the tendency of an atom to attract a bonding pair of electrons
Bond enthalpy
is the energy required to break one mole of the given bond in the gaseous molecule
