Orbit Anatomy Flashcards
Describe the orbit
ORBIT IS A PYRAMIDAL SHAPED SPACE WITH APEX SITUATED POSTERIORLY AND THE BASE ANTERIORLY
What bones make up the roof of the orbit?
ZYGOMATIC BONE
GREATER WING OF THE SPHENOID
What bones make up the floor of the orbit?
ZYGOMATIC
MAXILLARY
PALATINE
What bones make up the medial wall of the orbit?
MAXILLARY
LACRIMAL
SPHENOID
ETHMOID
What is the lamina papyracea?
PAPER THIN PLATE COVERING ETHMOIDAL CEL:S AND FORMS PART OF THE MEDIAL WALL
Why is the lamina papyracea significant?
CAN BE A ROUTE OF ENTRY FOR INFECTION FROM ETHMOID SINUS
Where is the optic foramen located and what does it carry?
The lesser wing of the sphenoid
OPTIC NERVE AND OPHTHALMIC ARTERY INTO THE MIDDLE CRANIAL FOSSA
Where is the superior orbital fissure located?
between greater and lesser wings of sphenoid
What does the superior aspect of the superior orbital fissure contain?
SUPERIOR OPTHALMIC VEIN, LACRIMAL NERVE, FRONTAL NERVE AND THE CNIV
What does the inferior aspect of the superior orbital fissure contain?
CNIII, NASOCILIARY NERVE (CNV 1) AND CNVI
Where is the inferior orbital fissure found?
between maxilla and greater wing of sphenoid bone
What does the inferior orbital fissure contain?
INFRAORBITAL NERVE (CNV 2) THE ZYOGMATIC NERVE (CNV2) AND THE INFRIOR OPTHALMIC VEIN
Where does the infraorbital nerve exit the orbit?
infraorbital foramen
What is the annulus of Zinn?
FIBROUS TISSUE MARKING THE ORIGIN OF THE FOUR RECTI MUSCLES
Where is the annulus of Zinn found?
SURROUNDING THE OPTIC CANAL AND INFERIOR PART OF THE Superior orbital fissure
